Western Fish Producers’ Organisation Assistant Manager

 

The Western Fish Producers’ Organisation (WFPO) is the newest UK government recognised commercial fishing co-operative, formed in 2020. Key objectives of the WFPO are:

  • Improve the sustainability of members’ operations to achieve high standards;

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver benefits to members and broader society, and

  • Add value to members’ products including improving market conditions.

Fish Producer Organisation’s (FPOs) are at the forefront of delivering a sustainable and profitable future for the UK commercial fishing sector. They are entrusted with quota management and other responsibilities such as higher rates of grant funding by the UK government. FPO’s represent the majority of companies catching UK wild seafood and as such achieve positive change from their unique position of influence between fishing companies and the UK government.

Role Description

The role is based near Exeter in the Southwest of England. The post holder will have a diverse role running the organisational processes as well as supporting and deputising for the WFPO Manager in projects and external engagement. Key characteristics of the successful candidate should include: attention to detail, adaptability to carry out a broad range of work and being a great communicator.

You will be a member of a team of two, leveraging the knowledge and networks of the members in diverse settings. You will work directly with fishermen on the quayside, senior government officials, fish buyers and other organisations to find pragmatic solutions. Time will be spent primarily on office work, with a regular quayside presence and external meeting attendance plus opportunities for trips to sea.
